A hybrid car allows you to drive on electric power for short journeys, with a petrol engine to support on longer journeys. When you slow down, the vehicle captures energy lost in braking and uses it to recharge the battery; this is called regenerative braking.

BYD’s electric hybrid system uses dual motors to deliver smooth and responsive acceleration, with oil-cooling technology for consistent performance. The Xiaoyun hybrid engine improves torque and works with the Blade Battery for an extended electric range and a boost of power.

A hybrid car has an engine and an electric motor. If you choose a plug-in hybrid, you’ll need to plug it in to charge.

The length of time it takes to charge the car will depend on the model you choose. For example, our BYD SEAL U DM-i model features 18kW DC rapid charging, allowing you to charge from 30% to 80% in just 35 minutes. This means you don’t have to worry about waiting for a long period before setting off on your travels.

Yes, unlike HEV (hybrid electric vehicles) that use only regenerative braking to charge, PHEV (plug-in electric vehicles) can·be charged by both regenerative braking and "plugging into" an external charger. You can do this with a home charger, public charging stations when you’re at work or motorway service stations to keep your hybrid car running on both fuel and electricity.

Hybrid cars are great for driving long distances as they use both an internal combustion engine and a motor. This means when the electric range runs out, you can simply carry on your journey powered by petrol or diesel — rather than having to stop for long periods to charge.

Hybrid cars can run on just electricity for a limited number of miles, which differs depending on the model you choose. The SEAL U DM-i has a full electric range of 46 miles for the Boost version, 53 miles for the Comfort and 78 miles for the Design. Once this has been exceeded, the engine will take over and recharge the battery while driving to keep your State of Charge (SOC) at the set value.
