Charging your Nissan electric vehicle

There are three main ways to charge your Nissan electric vehicle. Choose the option that best suits your home setup, daily mileage and lifestyle.

There are three main ways to charge your Nissan electric vehicle

Charging with a 7kW home charger

Most electric vehicle owners find this the easiest way of charging at home. Over 80% of electric vehicle owners choose to charge their cars at home and we recommend installing a 7kW home charger from one of our partners, E.ON Drive or Pod Point.

E.ON DrivePod Point

Charging whilst out and about

There are now thousands of public charging points across the country that enable you to charge whilst away from home. In fact, there are now more charging points across the UK than there are petrol stations.

Charging with a three pin plug

It is perfectly possible to charge your electric vehicle with a standard 3-pin socket charger cable. It is however, the least efficient and most time-consuming way. A dedicated home charger is the safest and quickest way to charge your electric vehicle from the comfort of your home.

Electric Vehicle FAQs – DS Dalgleish Nissan

All your electric vehicle questions answered by the team at DS Dalgleish Nissan.

What type of chargers are available for electric vehicles?

Electric vehicles can be charged in three main ways:

  • 3-pin socket (EVSE cable) – Uses a standard mains socket. Nissan recommends this is installed on an isolated circuit by a certified electrician. This is the slowest charging method.
  • AC home or workplace charger – Typically 7kW for home installations (up to 22kW at some locations). This is the most common and convenient daily charging method.
  • DC rapid charger – Found at motorway service stations and public charging hubs. Provides high-speed charging, with compatible Nissan models capable of receiving up to 130kW.
How do I find nearby EV chargers?

Nissan electric vehicles include in-car navigation systems that can display nearby charging stations. You can also use popular charging apps and public charging networks to locate available chargers across the UK. Our team at DS Dalgleish can guide you through the best apps and networks for your area.

How do I get an electric charging point installed at home?

Home chargers are typically installed by certified partners such as E.ON Drive or Pod Point. Your DS Dalgleish Nissan specialist can refer you directly to our preferred installers. A standard 7kW wallbox is the most practical and efficient home solution for daily charging.

How long is the warranty on the battery?

Nissan electric vehicle batteries are covered by a manufacturer warranty (typically 8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first, subject to model and terms). This warranty protects against capacity loss below a specified level. Please speak to DS Dalgleish for full model-specific warranty details.

Do electric vehicles have gears?

Electric vehicles do not have traditional multi-speed gearboxes like petrol or diesel cars. Most Nissan EVs operate with a single-speed transmission, delivering smooth and instant acceleration without gear changes.

What is a kilowatt (kW)?

A kilowatt (kW) measures power output. In electric vehicles, it describes the strength of the motor or the speed at which a charger can deliver electricity.

What is a kilowatt hour (kWh)?

A kilowatt hour (kWh) measures energy capacity. In an electric vehicle, this refers to the size of the battery and determines how much energy it can store, which directly impacts driving range.

Can you drive long distances in an electric vehicle?

Yes. Modern Nissan electric vehicles offer competitive driving ranges suitable for daily commuting and longer motorway journeys. Rapid charging infrastructure across the UK makes long-distance travel increasingly convenient.

What’s the difference between AC and DC charging?

AC (Alternating Current) charging is typically used at home or workplaces and delivers power at a steady rate. The vehicle converts AC power into DC to charge the battery.

DC (Direct Current) charging is used at rapid charging stations and feeds power directly into the battery, allowing much faster charging speeds.
